Our plan for Spain is to pick a home base in the middle (Olvera) and make day trips to explore. We already had a lovely time in Ronda (lovely is my new favorite word). Today’s trip – Gibraltar (after a stop on the Costa Del Sol) but first we have to get there.
I generally feel the kids and I have pretty strong stomach. We’re decent at this travel thing and car rides are usually not that big of a deal. We’ve tackled the Colorado mountains, Tennessee roads are nothing, Costa Rica (well that was really close to being a problem), and Morocco’s Atlas Mountains (a little scary but beautiful enough to ignore it). This easy trip down to the coast got us.
Poor B – the little dude was pasty white and green starting 30 minutes in to the ride. The ride to Ronda and the coast is beautiful but it’s one of those really curvy up and down the mountain things. R tried to slow down (it’s hard for him – manual car and he thinks the curves are fun) but it got B’s belly pretty bad. We stopped and got out a few times but it was cold and crazy windy – which made the cold feel like it was in your bones. Eventually B made use of the little baggy that we gave him and he felt better the rest of the road down – as long as we went slow and kept stopping. By the time we got to the beach he was fine. The ride was beautiful but we decided to go a longer but straighter route back.
Next time we’ll start slower, take our time and breaks sooner and be prepared with nausea meds and a bag.
