We don’t have a full social studies program either. I generally like to find a few books made about where we may be visiting and we do a history research project on each area. Since we homeschool intermittently, I’m trying to focus on things they may not learn in school. This year we started with a summary of the Big History Project, listened to The History of Absolutely Everything then focused on European History prior to our trip to Europe. We listened to A Night Divided and Echo on audiobook. We also listened to Number the Stars and The War that Saved my Life. My kids by far learned the most from our tour of the Ann Frank House and visit to Berlin and Paris.
For Geography we try to do at least a mini project of every city that we visit. I like Geography Now on You Tube for fun information.
The middle of the year we will focus more on US history. We hope to spend a week in DC and we will take some time to explore the southeast US.
My oldest is doing online college classes through Sophia and she may also do CLEP testing. She wanted to do AP testing but it’s only available a week we are out of the country and seemed difficult to arrange.
