Morocco Short Blog Posts
Marrakech Morocco if a vibrant city with an unique atmosphere and full of history. Morocco is likely an easier place to visit for traveling families but can be very overwhelming. We loved our riad and enjoyed a short stay here between Copenhagen and Spain. It was definately a memorable part of the trip. I’m really grateful to be able to expose the kids to such a different culture and atmosphere.
Off to Africa
We got up early – like 3 am early to get to our next flight. Thankfully we got a room at the airport hotel in Copenhagen. Unfortunately, the lack of sleep only increased the 3 year olds energy. She’s really good once we get on the plane – it’s just that all the steps in between are tricky. She wants to help with checking in, moving luggage, security, and everything in between. Things just get harder when you have a 3 year old dictating all your moves which then makes our nerves a little rattled.
We made it safely to Marrakech. We stayed at a hotel the first night and the kids got to experience their first mint tea. About half way through the day we realized we were down a bag. At some time we had just left B’s bag. We think it’s in Copenhagen but since we were rushing we didn’t label it and chances of it being seen again are really low. Luckily we didn’t loose his jacket but otherwise he has 3 pairs of pant, 1 shirt, 1 pullover and 2 pairs of underwear. I guess we’ll have to go shopping but for now – well at least we have 3 days of pants. The rest will have to be washed more. It’s a bummer – he had some really cute clothes and that bag was perfect for him.
Another “Land”
My 3 year old has been saying phrases like “What land is this” and “When do we go to that other land”. Marrakesh was definitely a different land. This portion of the trip was due to a little side track on my part.
We had picked Spain for a good part of our trip and I thought – “well if we’re in Spain we might as well take the ferry to Tangier, Morocco .. and if we’re taking the ferry we might as well stay for a couple of days to get a better look at the place … and Marrakesh is so close may be we should fly in to there .. and looks like there’s an overnight train that goes back to Tangier .. then we can ferry back … no big deal and since Africa is so close to Spain we have to go – right???”
So it all sounded so simple when I pitched to my husband. We’d just fly in to Marrakesh instead of Spain, stay a few days, take a train then ferry to Spain then get our rental car. We booked the room and the flight and turns out – it’s a pain in the butt to get a rental car from the ferry port. We could not make it If work. We looked at a crazy amount of options and none of them worked. It ended up being cheaper to fly to Lisbon then getting a rental car in Spain.
That’s how we ended up in Africa – and I’m really glad we did.
