You Can Find a Way
For most people extensive travel seems like a far off dream that only a few people are able to pursue like that expensive yacht or a second house on the beach.
In today’s world that is no longer true. Travel has become very affordable and if you figure out how to make things work (whatever your particular situation may be) you might be surprised that you can travel. Not only can you do this, it’s not as hard as you think
The Tips and Tricks section of this website is mostly about how we made it work for us with advice we gathered along the way You way is likely going to be different then our way and that’s OK. You have to do it the way it works for you.
Getting Started
I’ll start with the basics – if you don’t need the basics then scan down and pick the sections that interest you.
Step #1 – Set your priorities
Like really write them down. Write your priorities for this year, 1 year, 3 years, 5 years, 10 and 20 years out. If traveling is a priority then treat it as such. If it’s not, then enjoy the website and work on your own priorities whatever they may be. Write down your priorities for travel and life in general. One of the most important things I feel you can do in life is to continue to set priorities, change them as needed and frequently evaluate rather or not your life fits your priorities. If what you are doing now doesn’t fit with your list, change it.
Don’t let your excuses get in your way. There will always be excuses but if you really sit and look at the entire picture your excuses may not be as large of an issue as you think.
Start Reading
At this stage I also recommend reading books to get you motivated. There are a lot of personal travel books out there. I’ve read a few of them. They do start to get repetitive but it is worth checking several out (especially if you have Kindle Unlimited). A lot of these you can read in a few hours, you may get a couple pearls of wisdom from each one, and they can be motivating. I just wouldn’t expect to get a lot out of each one. Also consider overall self help or motivational books not just books focused on travel.
One travel book that stood out for me is Changing Gears: A Family Odyssey to the End of the World. This book is about a family that biked with 10 year old twin boys from Alaska to the tip of South America over 3 years. It’s an easy read and has some great pearls of wisdom. Plus, if a family can accomplish that I can get my butt 3 kids and a husband to an airport and on a plane … perspective. I think it’s free with Kindle Unlimited.
Another favorite of mine is the 1,000 Places to See Before You Die. It’s just a great place to start making plans and get inspired. Plus it’s so much fun to check off the places you visit.
So if you write your list and Travel is at the top, then make it happen. There are many ways to make travel a reality. You have to figure out what your way is going to be. Travel is possible for most people (not necessarily luxury hotel kind of stuff) but if you can think outside the box and do your research you can make it happen.
Here are a few more to help you get the travel bug (I haven’t gotten around to reading these three below just yet – but they’re on my wish list, so hopefully I’ll have them read soon).
