Denmark Family Travel

We had great hopes for our Christmas in Copenhagen and the city lived up to all of our wishes.

Denmark was probably the last location we picked for this trip although it was the first place we went to. We wanted a the kids to have a different Christmas Experience then what we typically celebrate but we also wanted a place that could be called a winter wonderland. I had looked in to Southern Germany and the Alps but I could not get the lodging and transportation worked out as well as I would have liked.

I started thinking about Copenhagen after watching a Samantha Brown episode where she went to Tivoli. I then found some great online inspiration articles and I thought – this could work.

We found plane tickets for less than $200 per person from New York City and made a plan. This was our most expensive lodging of the trip (Copenhagen is not a budget destination) but because we did not have a car rental and the plane tickets were so cheap it worked. We also did not eat out much and were able to keep our food costs really low. We did buy season passes to the National Museum of Denmark but that gave us a warm place to take a break when we were exploring and we definitely got our money’s worth. Our other splurge was the Experimentarium but otherwise we did not have that many expenses.

Christmas was a wonderful experience and we got to see a country that has always been on our radar to visit but I did not think we could see this time around.
